What a year 2020 has been, there are really no words to encompass the trials and tribulations that we all have been through. I want to celebrate the many successes your students have had thus far this year!
We have created a lovely class community (against all odds)! We are well into and on our way of understanding multiplication and division! We have completed several 5 paragraph essays! We have contributed, participated, and created a beautiful book of poetry! We have contributed and created a family recipe book for all of us to share, our family favorites to eat! We have learned about different parts of the world and people from around the globe. We have learned about our government and how it works! We have been fantastic reading buddies! We have been great pen pals! We have been weather scientists! We have discovered animals and how they change over time! And so much more! Thank you for making our classroom a joy to be part of, it may be unusual but it is the most important part of my day! I look forward to what 2021 will bring and all the things that we will do together for the rest of the year, whether it is virtually or in person! You all are fabulous and I appreciate you all! Thank you! Love, Maris

Hello my friends,
It is November! Time flies. I have chosen to update this website monthly this year as one of the silver linings of distance learning is that we students, families, and I have much closer communication than when we are in school. I want to thank you all for inviting me into your homes with your students and all of your hard work as families during this unpresented time. The students have been working so hard this last trimester, we have just started our second trimester a week and a half ago. We worked on and created spooky stories. The kids did a fantastic job with this narrative writing task. We have also just finished our first five paragraph essay with persuasive writing. The students were very convincing! Our weekly reading work, grammar, and language arts has been a great week to see the students progress and understanding. We are deep into multiplication and division, I love hearing all of the students thoughts and ideas about how to work out and understand the math. We will be moving into patterns and shapes after fall break. We have completed our unit on animals and changes over time and have been discussing and working on weather. This week they will be finishing up their severe weather presentations and sharing them. We have been working on poetry with a guest teacher, Sandra, which has been wonderful. The kids are all wonderful poets! Upcoming dates: No School November 23 - 27 (fall break) All School Assembly December 2 (9:30 - 10) American Heart Association All School Poetry Recital December 16 (10 - 11) :) Holiday drive through event December 18 (1:30 - 3:30) No School December 21 - January 1 (winter break) School Resumes January 3, 2021 Time is just flying by! We just finished parent/teacher conference week. I want to say that I appreciate you all for taking the time to meet with me, I really enjoyed getting to know all of you better.
Although things are so different this year and tuff for many I just wanted to appreciate all our families for doing a phenomenal job! I appreciate you all! Thank you. We have finished beginning of the year assessments, gotten through review from second grade and are full tilt into 3rd grade curriculum. All the students are doing well and I appreciate their tenacity and cooperation. This week I was able to post student work on the walls of the classroom and even though we are not there together it is wonderful to see their pictures and writing. The last couple of weeks we have been working on the basics of multiplication in math. This coming week we will be working on number patterns and then heading into division basics mid next week. We have begun work on our parts of speech and will continue work on reading and writing skills. We will start our unit on fossils this week and how animals change over time. As well in celebration of LBGTQI month we will be looking at gender and gender stereotypes this week. We have poetry guest teacher on Tuesday morning from 9 - 10, and Reading Buddies on Friday at 9:30. As always if you have questions or concerns please reach out. Have a wonderful week! |
